Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld steps up injury recovery

Toby Alderweireld provides a positive update on his comeback from a long-term hamstring injury, which is likely to rule him out for a further seven weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has stepped up his recovery from a hamstring injury by taking part in a light training session.

The 28-year-old has not featured for Spurs since their 3-1 win over Real Madrid on November 1 and is likely to remain absent until at least February.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a welcome boost by seeing the Belgian centre-back return to running on the training ground, though there has been no adjustment to his predicted return date.

Alderweireld tweeted a picture of his training comeback on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by the caption "Recovery continues".

In eight games without Alderweireld in the heart of defence, the Lilywhites have kept just two clean sheets.
