New Atletico Madrid striker David Villa hints that Tottenham Hotspur's procrastination over a transfer forced him out of a move to the club.

Atletico Madrid striker David Villa has hinted that his protracted transfer to Tottenham Hotspur fell apart because the club did not act quickly enough.

Speaking at his unveiling as an Atleti player, the former Barcelona man admitted that he had offers from Premier League clubs, but their inactivity led to him joining the Copa del Rey winners.

"It is true the idea was for me to go to the Premier League, because the biggest offers came from there," Villa told reporters.

"But then Atletico Madrid showed up and they did more in three days than others did in months."

It is believed that Villa was referring to Spurs who were interested in the 31-year-old before his switch to the Spanish capital.

Villa moves to Vicente Calderon for a fee in the region of £4.4m.
