A report claims that Manchester City chiefs are preparing for Pep Guardiola's possible exit, with Mauricio Pochettino their top choice to take charge.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly being lined up to take over as Manchester City's next manager should Pep Guardiola leave the club.

Doubts are growing over Guardiola's future on the back of a disappointing 2019-20 campaign that ended with a shock defeat to Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The 49-year-old has less than a year to run on his existing contract and has not yet discussed extending those terms.

According to The Sun, City would like Guardiola to stay on beyond the end of next season, but they already have plans in place should that not be the case.

Pochettino, out of work since leaving Tottenham Hotspur last November, is said to be the number one choice to succeed Guardiola.

However, the former Spurs boss is also high on Barcelona's list of targets ahead of Quique Setien's imminent sacking.
