Southampton are reportedly keeping tabs on West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of a proposed move in January.

The 28-year-old, who is currently away on international duty with England, has been linked with a departure from the Baggies since their relegation to the Championship last season.

Johnstone will see his contract expire next summer and the goalkeeper has put talks over a potential extension on hold while he assesses his options.

According to The Sun, Southampton are the latest club to have expressed an interest in Johnstone and are prepared to make a cash offer to sign him in January.

The Saints are looking to recruit a new goalkeeper in one of the upcoming transfer windows, as Fraser Forster is expected to leave when his contract expires in June 2022.

West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in Johnstone's services, with the latter believed to have sent scouts to watch the stopper in West Brom's Championship game against Preston North End last month.

Johnstone, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, has made 141 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies, keeping 34 clean sheets.
