Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly leading the race to sign Brisbane Roar youngster Thomas Waddingham.

Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly regarded as the frontrunners to sign Brisbane youngster Thomas Waddingham.

The North London outfit are currently nearing the end of their first campaign under Greek-Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou.

While a return to European football is likely to be achieved, Spurs currently sit six points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League standings as they each try to secure qualification for the Champions League.

Despite the lack of games on the continent, Postecoglou has still used as many as 28 different players in Spurs' 32 Premier League fixtures.

Less than a handful of those have been prospects, with Dane Scarlett, Jamie Donley and Alejo Veliz making a total of 13 substitute outings between them.

When Spurs add at least eight games to their schedule for 2024-25, Postecoglou may feel the need to hand more game time to players who are eager to make an impression.

Nevertheless, it has already been suggested that Veliz will go back out on loan and it is plausible that Scarlett and Donley could follow.

Spurs showing interest in Waddingham

According to Football Insider, Spurs hold an interest in adding Waddingham to their squad during the summer transfer window.

The report claims that Spurs are currently regarded as the frontrunners to beat a range of other Premier Leagues to secure his signature.

Waddingham, who is 19 years of age, has already made the breakthrough into the senior squad at Brisbane Roar to put himself in the shop window for a move to Europe.

How has Waddingham performed of late?

Despite his young age, Waddingham has already chipped in with 10 goals and one assist from 27 appearances for Brisbane Roar.

Although the starlet has failed to score in his last five outings, the Australia Under-20 international earlier put together a run of five goals in four games.

Waddingham's contract is due to expire at the end of June, presenting Spurs with an opportunity to try to add him to their ranks.

Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the situation, but it is suggested that Postecoglou's contacts in Australian football make a move to North London more likely.
