Tottenham Hotspur will wait till the end of August to make a £20m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are poised to wait until the end of August to make a £20m bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, according to a report.

The Belgium international is Spurs' top transfer target this summer and they are hopeful of landing the 22-year-old even if it takes till the end of the transfer window.

Villa want up to £30m for Benteke, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy believes that if his side time their bid correctly, then they can secure his signature for £20m, reports The Sun.

Benteke scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season.
