Steve Lomas has been announced as the new manager of St Johnstone on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

St Johnstone have appointed Steve Lomas as the new manager of the Scottish club on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The former Northern Ireland midfielder will replace Derek McInnes at the helm after his departure to Bristol City last month.

Lomas has replaced interim boss Alec Cleland, who was willing to take on the position with the Clydesdale Bank Premier League club on a permanent basis.

During Lomas's time as a player he carried out stints at Manchester City, Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United.
