Fulham relegated from Premier League after Stoke City defeat

Fulham fall to heavy defeat at the hands of Stoke City to confirm their relegation from the Premier League.

Stoke City have defeated Fulham 4-1 at the Britannia Stadium to condemn the Cottagers to relegation.

Felix Magath's side's loss, combined with Sunderland's 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford, ensures that Fulham's 13-year stay in the Premier League has come to an end.

The first real chance of the contest fell to the returning Ousamma Assaidi, who sent his shot over the crossbar after being picked out by Steven N'Zonzi inside the box.

Odemwingie was the next Stoke player to try his luck, dropping deep to collect the ball before unleashing a shot which drifted narrowly wide of the target on 16 minutes.

David Stockdale was called into action on two separate occasions to deny Steven Ireland and Assaidi, before Odemwingie eventually found a way through to make it 1-0 after 39 minutes.

The striker latched on to Ireland's deflected shot before tapping home from close range to give his side the lead.

Stoke added goal number two 10 minutes after the restart through Marko Arnautovic, who calmly drilled his effort into the back of the net after Odemwingie rolled the ball back to him.

Fulham's day was to get even worse, however, when Assaidi made it 3-0 with 74 minutes played. Arnautovic this time turned provider by sliding the ball to his teammate, who slotted home from close range.

The Cottagers did manage to pull a goal back with 10 minutes remaining thanks to Kieran Richardson who volleyed past Asmir Begovic, but just three minutes later Jonathan Walters collected a through-ball before beating Stockdale to round off the scoring and confirm Fulham's relegation.
