Wigan Athletic fightback earns point at the Britannia Stadium

Wigan Athletic come from two goals down against Stoke City to earn a point at the Britannia Stadium.

Wigan Athletic have fought back from 2-0 down to take a point from their trip to face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

A clash of heads between Robert Huth and Franco di Santo in the second minute of the game left the German needing to be bandaged up.

After that, the game struggled to get going and it was a rather scrappy affair.

The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Jean Beausejour's clearing header rebounded off James McCarthy and into the patch of Ryan Shawcross, who finished from close range.

That is the way it stayed until the break, but the Latics came out for the second half rejuvenated.

Peter Crouch's 48th-minute goal looked to be sending Roberto Martinez's team to another defeat.

They were back in the game just two minutes later, however, when McArthur slotted past Asmir Begovic after being put through by Roger Espinoza.

It was all square just after the hour mark as the Scottish midfielder turned provider, heading Espinoza's cross back across goal for Di Santo to net.

The Argentine striker nearly won it late on, but he was just inches from connecting with Shaun Maloney's shot.
