Mark Hughes: 'Charlie Adam will not be joining Burnley'

Mark Hughes stresses that midfielder Charlie Adam "is a part" of his Stoke City plans for the coming season and will not be leaving to join Burnley.

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has told Burnley that he has no intention of allowing Charlie Adam to leave the club during the summer transfer window.

The Scotland international has reportedly been targeted by the Clarets as a possible like-for-like replacement for departed midfielder Joey Barton.

Hughes is looking to keep hold of Adam this summer, however, despite the 30-year-old having just two years left to run on his current deal at the Bet365 Stadium.

"I think there was a little bit of interest in Charlie, but we haven't encouraged that," he is quoted as saying by the Stoke Sentinel. "Charlie is a part of what we are doing here moving forward, so that's not a situation that will develop."

Stoke are hoping to strengthen their attacking ranks with the arrival of Egyptian international Ramadan Sobhi, who is close to joining the Potters in a rumoured £3.5m deal.
