Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid joins Wolfsburg on loan

Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid joins Wolfsburg on a season-long loan deal.

Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid has joined Wolfsburg on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old only joined the Potters last summer, and went on to make 39 appearances for the club in all competitions during his first full campaign in England.

The German started Stoke's first two league games of the new season, but will now spend the remainder of the campaign back in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.

The deadline-day arrival of Bruno Martins Indi to Stoke is thought to have been the final green light to allow Wollscheid to leave the club.
