Wales boss Chris Coleman 'interested in Sunderland job'

Wales manager Chris Coleman is reportedly open to the prospect of stepping down from his position and taking over at Championship basement boys Sunderland.

Chris Coleman has reportedly declared an interest in taking on the Sunderland job, as discussions over his Wales future are put on hold.

The 47-year-old hinted after the Dragons' 1-1 draw with Panama in midweek that he would like to remain in charge of the national side through to Euro 2020.

Further talks between Coleman and the Football Association of Wales had been planned for Friday afternoon but, according to the Daily Mail, the former Coventry City and Fulham boss is open to jumping ship and joining the Black Cats.

Sunderland, at the foot of the Championship table after winning just one of their opening 16 matches, are also said to have targeted Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill and Paul Heckingbottom of Barnsley.

The same report claims that Sunderland have yet to begin formal discussions with any of their targets, however, with Coleman now installed as the bookmakers' favourite to replace Simon Grayson at the Stadium of Light.
