Sunderland name Roberto de Fanti as their new director of football, while Valentino Angeloni also comes in as chief scout.

Sunderland have appointed Roberto de Fanti as their new director of football.

De Fanti is joined at the Stadium of Light by former Inter Milan colleague Valentino Angeloni, who comes in as the new chief scout.

The duo have already worked together at the likes of Udinese and Inter, and Sunderland are hoping that their presence will improve their player recruitment strategy.

"Roberto and Valentino bring with them a wealth of experience, knowledge and football contacts from across Europe and indeed the world and we are delighted to welcome them to Sunderland," said Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne.

"The recruitment of players is of course key for any football club and Roberto and Valentino will work closely with the head coach and the board to identify targets as we look to strengthen our squad for next season and beyond.

"I would also like to extend our thanks to the president of Inter Milan, Massimo Moratti, who graciously agreed to allow Valentino to make the move to Sunderland."

The pair have already reportedly outlined a number of targets for the club, including Valentin Roberge, Cabral and Modibo Diakite.
