Sunderland's Adam Johnson wins Player of the Month for January

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson wins the Premier League Player of the Month award for January after scoring five goals.

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has been rewarded by the Premier League for his efforts in January by being named Player of the Month.

The former Manchester City player went through a period of struggle at the Stadium of Light, but the 26-year-old has found his form under new head coach Gus Poyet.

Johnson netted five goals last month, three of which came in the Black Cats' 4-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage on January 11.

Sunderland have pulled themselves out of the relegation zone and currently sit 14th in the table.
