Leighton James: 'Chris Coleman better fit for Swansea City than Brendan Rodgers'

Former Swansea City winger Leighton James claims that Chris Coleman would be a better choice than Brendan Rodgers as the club's next manager.

Former Swansea City winger Leighton James has suggested that Chris Coleman would be a better choice than Brendan Rodgers to become the club's next manager.

The Swans are looking for a new manager after sacking Garry Monk on Wednesday, with reports claiming that Rodgers, who managed the Swans between 2010 and 2012, could return to the Liberty Stadium for a second spell.

However, James believes that Wales manager Chris Coleman would be the right man for the job.

"Chris Coleman would be above Brendan Rodgers on my wish-list now Swansea City are searching for a new manager," he told the South Wales Evening Post.

"I'm not sure if the Wales boss would even be interested in the job if it meant missing out on next summer's Euros, but he'd definitely be worth sounding out. My biggest concern about appointing a new manager is that it could take him a couple of months to settle in and Swansea can ill-afford that wait.

"Chris is from the area and knows the club well so could slot in far more smoothly than an outsider. He has also proven himself an excellent manager by steering Wales to France 2016."

Coleman guided Wales to their first major tournament since 1958 by qualifying for the Euros in October.
