Andre Ayew joins Swansea City from Marseille

Swansea City complete the signing of Andre Ayew on a free transfer from Marseille.

Swansea City have completed the free signing of Andre Ayew on a four-year contract from Marseille.

The Ghanaian forward was out of contract this summer and has opted to join Premier League side Swansea, subject to international clearance.

He told the club website that speaking to Bafetimbi Gomis helped convince him to move to South Wales.

"[Gomis] told me about the club's record season and also about the team spirit, manager, training, the players and how everyone is united," said Ayew.

"Those are great things for me to hear. I know the squad will help me settle in and we will help each other to make Swansea a better team - that's what is important."

The 25-year-old scored 52 goals in 181 total appearances for Marseille and leaves the club after spending all of his professional career on the South coast of France.

"It was a very difficult decision to leave Marseille," he added. "I spent so many years there - I was in the youth team before breaking into the first team and stayed all of my life in Marseille.

"It's true that I had a lot of offers, so I needed to take my time to make the right decision for my future. I didn't want to rush but I feel I have made the right decision."

Ayew, who has also netted 11 times in 62 appearances for his country, will wear the number 10 for the Welsh side.
