Michu called into Spain squad

Vicente del Bosque calls Michu into his Spain squad for next weekend's World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia.

Swansea City striker Michu has been called into the Spain squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers as a replacement for David Villa.

The Atletico Madrid forward had to leave the pitch during this afternoon's 2-1 win over Celta Vigo as he struggled with an ankle problem.

Michu burst onto the Premier League scene last season with 18 goals following his £2m move from Rayo Vallecano.

It is the first time that he - or any Swans player - has ever been called up to the Spanish national squad and 10 years since the first Spaniard - current Everton boss Roberto Martinez - played for the club.

Vicente del Bosque's men are currently level with France at the top of Group I, and victory in their last two matches against Belarus and Georgia will guarantee them returning to Brazil to defend their trophy.

The 62-year-old opted against giving a recalls to Tottenham Hotspur's Roberto Soldado and Juventus striker Fernando Llorente.
