Swindon dump another big name out of the League Cup by beating Burnley 3-1 this evening to book their place in round four.

Swindon Town have produced something of a shock by beating Burnley 3-1 in the third round of the League Cup this evening.

The visitors came within inches of taking the lead after just seven minutes when Ross Wallace's corner was met by Charlie Austin, but his effort was cleared off the line.

It was the League One side who broke the deadlock, however, when James McEveley's cross was converted by Paul Benson.

This lead was doubled three minutes before the break courtesy of an Andrew Williams strike following a mistake by David Edgar.

Ben Mee squandered a fine chance to get a goal back right on the stroke of half time having been found by Kieron Trippier, but he headed his chance over from inside the six-yard box.

They missed another glorious chance on the hour mark when Trippier once again swung a ball in and this time Sam Vokes got on the end of it, only to see his point blank header kept out.

Burnley finally did get a goal back with 15 minutes left, Austin continuing his fine recent scoring form with a cool finish.

The one-goal cushion lasted just ten minutes, however, as Swindon restored their lead through Troy Acrhibald-Henville with just five minutes left.

It was almost 4-1 in the closing stages as Trippier was forced to clear Gary Roberts's effort off the line, but it stayed 3-1 and Swindon safely progressed to the next round.
