Martin Ling named Swindon Town manager

Swindon Town confirm the appointment of Martin Ling as their new manager.

Swindon Town have confirmed that they have appointed former player Martin Ling as their new manager.

The 49-year-old played for the Robins briefly in 1986 and then again from 1991 to 1996 and was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League under Glenn Hoddle in 1993.

Swindon chairman Lee Power had been in charge of the first team following the dismissal of Mark Cooper a fortnight ago.

As a manager, Ling spent six years in charge of Leyton Orient from 2003 to 2009, guiding the East Londoners to promotion from League Two in 2006. He has also managed Cambridge United and Torquay United, steering the latter to the League Two playoff semi-finals in 2012.

Ling's first game in charge will be the FA Cup first-round tie at Rochdale on Saturday.
