Sports Mole previews Group G's opening match between the United States and France.

In arguably the tie of the opening round of women's fixtures, the United States face France in Group G on Wednesday.

The two sides, who meet in Glasgow, are considered as favourites for the gold medal - the United States just missed out on glory in last year's final of the women's World Cup against Germany.

Meanwhile, France finished fourth in the World Cup last year, and they will be determined to make their mark on this summer's Olympics.

The United States have won their last five matches at women's Olympic football competition and should they beat the French, they will match the record of six consecutive victories.

France boast arguably the greatest women's club side in Lyon, and the majority of their starting side will feature this summer.

The United States are missing arguably their greatest player in Ali Krieger, however, Heather Mitts and Kelley O'Hara could both start.

Eugenie Le Sommer and Camille Abily have both shaken off knocks and are expected to start, while Louis Necib is also expected to be given the nod.

Possible starting lineups:

USA: Solo; O'Hara, Sauerbrunn, Lepeilbet, Rampone; Morgan, O'Reilly, Lloyd, Rapinoe; Heath, Leroux

France: Deville; Renard, Georges, Franco, Bompastor; Necib, Abily, Thomis, Bussaglia; Le Sommer, Delie

Sports Mole says: 2-2
