Villarreal extend home winning streak with victory over Celta Vigo

Villarreal equal their club-record home winning streak in the league with a 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo.

Villarreal recorded their eighth consecutive league win at El Madrigal by seeing off Celta Vigo in this evening's La Liga match.

In the early stages Villarreal were frustrated by the visitors and Celta almost took the lead on a couple of occasions when Nolito was denied by Sergio Asenjo.

The Yellow Submarine went in front in the 41st minute when Giovani dos Santos rolled home from a tight angle to end his goal drought in the league this season.

It was a blow for Celta and they were two down by half time as Mateo Musacchio headed home Moises Gomez's free kick in the first minute of added time.

The visitors halved the deficit five minutes into the second half through Augusto Fernandez, who directed Nolito's free kick into the corner.

That would be as good as it got for Celta, though, with Luciano Vietto and Gerard Moreno adding further goals for Villarreal with a pair of composed finishes in the final 20 minutes.

Three points for Villarreal sees them cement their place in the top six. Celta, meanwhile, stay ninth, eight points above the relegation zone.
