Real Betis score late to beat Vitoria de Guimaraes

Real Betis secure a late win against Vitoria de Guimaraes in Group I.

Real Betis scored a 93rd-minute winner to beat Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Europa League tonight.

Betis looked the stronger early on and found joy down the left-hand side. However, both sides struggled to create a clear opening.

Andre Santos attempted a shot from long range and forced Stephan Andersen into a good save. As the first half wore on, though, both defences were on top.

Early in the second half, Betis defender Nono tried his luck with a speculative shot from 40 yards.

Jean-Pierre Barrientos was next to attempt a long-range shot as chances remained at a premium. However, like the others, his sailed well wide.

Jorge Molina had a good chance to put Betis in the lead, but after breaking clear of the defence, he was unable to beat the goalkeeper.

Barrientos then curled a ball in which evaded everyone on the edge of the six-yard box.

With time running out, Chuli found the net from 12 yards to give Betis the win.
