Ryan Giggs suggests that Paul Scholes is in the frame to join Wales's coaching setup, as he continues to shape his backroom staff.

Wales boss Ryan Giggs has hinted that he has opened discussions with fellow Manchester United legend Paul Scholes about a coaching position.

Giggs was handed his first permanent managerial job with the Dragons last week, taking over from Chris Coleman who stepped aside last November following failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The 44-year-old is now in the process of filling out his backroom team, with Coleman's former assistant Osian Roberts and former United midfielder Scholes both being approached.

Asked if he was any closer to recruiting ex-teammate Scholes, Giggs is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "I speak to Scholesy all the time. I saw him Saturday at Salford City - but there are no names who are concrete.

"I am talking to lots of people and I do not want to mention individuals. I obviously know Scholesy really well. We will see what happens.

"It is a balance. A balance about getting experience, fresh ideas - someone who can improve the Welsh team. It is my first job [in management], so if you have someone with experience, it is a bonus.

"We are getting there [with the coaching team]. There is nothing concrete at the moment - only Tony Roberts as goalkeeper coach who will carry on, someone I know well from my playing career with Wales.

Giggs saw off competition from Craig Bellamy, Mark Bowen and respected coach Roberts to be named Wales's new manager.
