Gareth Bale: 'Wales happy with positive point against Austria'

Wales winger Gareth Bale describes his side's draw away to Austria in World Cup qualifying as a "positive point" from a "very difficult" place.

Wales winger Gareth Bale has said that his side are content with a point from their 2-2 draw with Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium this evening.

Chris Coleman's side twice took the lead in Vienna, but a brace from Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic pegged them back and earned the hosts a draw.

The result leaves both sides locked in a four-way tie for top spot in World Cup qualifying Group D, and Bale suggested that their home form will be the key to reaching the finals.

"It's a difficult place to come if you look at their record in qualifying. They didn't lose at all [in qualifying for the Euros] and drew one game. We know we weren't at our best tonight. It was a difficult game, they're a very good team," he told Sky Sports News.

"This is what we've grown up to do - we grind out results when we need them. When we don't play well we defend solidly as a team. We get something from the game. We were frustrated. We know we didn't play well enough tonight. They made it very difficult for us there wasn't much space up front.

"Ultimately we would have loved to have played better and won the game. We have to take the positives from the game, it's a very difficult place to come. We grinded out a two-all and a positive point."

Wales will now turn their attention to Sunday's qualifier against Georgia in Cardiff.
