Watford striker Troy Deeney: 'Norwich City's Wes Hoolahan dived to win penalty'

Watford's Troy Deeney claims that Norwich midfielder Wes Hoolahan dived to win the crucial first penalty during their 3-0 defeat to the Canaries in the Championship.

Watford striker Troy Deeney has expressed his anger at the performance of referee Carl Berry during yesterday's Championship defeat to Norwich City.

Deeney claimed after the match that Norwich's Wes Hoolahan admitted to diving to win a penalty that tilted the tie in the Canaries' favour when it was locked at 0-0.

"It is a dive," the Watford Observer quotes Deeney as saying. "Wes told us he has dived and that is frustrating. These are the things that keep going against us though.

"I have to be careful with what I say but how many times has this happened now? That is what has to be asked. Look at [Hoolahan's] reaction. Is he rolling around in pain or did he get straight back up? There is a linesman on that side as well.

"To be honest, we are probably better just playing with the referee. I am not sure what the linesman does anymore except to give throw-ins and signal which way it is going."

Norwich went on to win 3-0, leapfrogging Watford in the process to go fifth in the table.
