Augsburg edge thriller with Werder Bremen

Augsburg win for the second time this season as they beat Werder Bremen 4-2 in a dramatic Bundesliga encounter.

Augsburg have recorded their second victory of the Bundesliga season by beating Werder Bremen 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Bremen made the perfect start to the match as Santiago Garcia's cross reached Davie Selke in the third minute, and the forward took the chance to finish emphatically.

Augsburg responded impressively to the early setback, and were soon level as Daniel Baier linked well with Hamit Altintop before powering a low shot into the bottom corner.

Raul Bobadilla was inches away from making it 2-1 to the hosts midway through the first half, but his curled effort drifted just over the crossbar.

However, Augsburg were in front before the break thanks to Paul Verhaegh, who stroked home a penalty after the referee had spotted a foul from Fin Bartels inside the box.

Bremen were level just nine minutes into the second half through a penalty of their own, as Franco Di Santo fired home after Dominik Kohr had been penalised for a foul.

Augbsurg survived an extended spell of pressure midway through the second half, and took control of the game again in the closing stages.

The winner would arrive in the 77th minute when Francisco Caiuby's powerful effort rebounded off the crossbar, allowing Tobias Werner to head in from close range.

Bremen's challenge quickly faded, and Augsburg managed to add a fourth in stoppage time when substitute Tim Matavz broke free of the visiting defence to slot home.
