West Bromwich Albion are reportedly targeting Chris Wilder as a replacement for Sam Allardyce, who will not be in charge of the Baggies next season.

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly targeted former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder as Sam Allardyce's replacement.

Allardyce announced this week that he would not be carrying on with his job at the Hawthorns when the club go back down to the Championship next season, which was Allardyce's first Premier League relegation as a manager.

Wilder led Sheffield United from League One to the top flight during his five-year tenure at Bramall Lane and enjoyed a successful first season in the Premier League when the Blades finished the 2019-20 campaign in ninth.

According to the Daily Mail, West Brom have held talks with Wilder's representatives and it is believed that the 53-year-old is keen to return to the dugout and would be interested in the challenge of getting the club to bounce back to the top division.

Many players in the current Baggies squad are expected to remain at the Hawthorns and help the club get promoted from the Championship next season, with only Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira likely to be sold.

In total, Wilder managed 227 games for Sheffield United before stepping down from the club in March.
