West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has said that his team deserved their victory against West Ham United in the Premier League this afternoon.

An early goal from Saido Berahino gave the Baggies a 1-0 win that moved them five points clear of the relegation zone.

"It was really very important and the atmosphere the fans generated really helped us and we can all go home happy," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"Against Cardiff we drew, Tottenham we drew, then we drew with Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton so I really think we deserve that today.

"I think that we need to win one of our final three games to be safe."

Berahino's goal was the ninth of the season for the 20-year-old striker.
