Slaven Bilic: 'Brave Andy Carroll fine following attack'

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic says that Andy Carroll is "okay" after being threatened at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon.

West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic has revealed that Andy Carroll is "okay" after being threatened at gunpoint while driving home from the club's training ground on Wednesday afternoon.

It was reported late on Tuesday night that Carroll had been confronted by two motorcyclists - one holding a gun - when he reached a junction in his Mercedes while driving to his home in Essex.

Carroll eventually managed to lose the two men after driving back to West Ham's training ground, and Bilic has insisted that his "brave" striker "is good" despite the seriousness of the incident.

"Andy Carroll is good. I just spoke to him about what happened. He is okay. He was probably targeted. I don't think it was a coincidence and he was chased for a long time," Bilic told reporters ahead of his team's Premier League clash with Stoke City this weekend.

"He was very brave and came back to the training ground. Thankfully he is good and not in shock. He acted in a brave manner.

"Whatever he needs or any other player we can provide for them. He is smiling today and is in a good environment now. He will continue to do his rehab and is running. He started that a couple of days ago. If he continues we would expect him back on the pitch in two weeks."

A knee injury has kept Carroll, who netted nine times in 32 West Ham appearances last term, on the sidelines since August.
