Jose Fonte quits West Ham United for Chinese club Dalian Yifang

Jose Fonte joins Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang for an undisclosed fee, just 13 months after arriving at West Ham United.

West Ham United have confirmed the departure of centre-back Jose Fonte after agreeing an undisclosed fee with Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.

The Portugal international has featured prominently for the Hammers this term, being used 24 times in all competitions.

Fonte, an unused sub in each of United's last three league games while recovering from a knee injury, has now taken up the offer to earn big money in the Far East.

A club statement read: "Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Jose for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him a successful future with Dalian Yifang."

United paid Southampton £8m in January 2017 to sign Fonte, who made a total of 24 top-flight appearances for the London outfit.
