Owen Coyle: 'We were outstanding throughout'

Owen Coyle calls Wigan Athletic "outstanding" following their 3-1 win over Maribor in the Europa League.

Owen Coyle has claimed that Wigan Athletic were "outstanding" in the 3-1 victory over Maribor on Thursday night.

The Latics secured their first win in European competition with a comfortable win and Coyle was quick to single out Nick Powell and Scott Carson after the final whistle.

"The level of performance was outstanding. This is a proud club. Sixteen years ago we were in the Fourth Division," Coyle told reporters. "From start to finish we were outstanding. We showed the quality we've got.

"Nick Powell showed great quality. Given the injuries, we're hoping it all goes well with us moving forward. I said to the lads to dominate - it should have been five or six nil. Scott Carson was an England keeper not by accident - he can get back into the squad."

Wigan have collected four points from their first two matches in Group D.
