Wigan Athletic remain bottom of the Premier League after a 2-0 defeat to Swansea City.

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored twice as Swansea City recorded a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

It was Wigan who applied most of the early pressure, with Jean Beausejour proving a threat in the preliminary stages of the game.

Swansea went closest to opening the scoring, however, after 13 minutes when Nathan Dyer found himself unmarked in the area, but his strike was pushed away by a smart save from Ali Al Habsi.

Scott Sinclair was next to go close for the away side after 20 minutes, before Sigurdsson missed a similar effort ten minutes later.

There was hardly a tackle of note in the opening half, with both sides enjoying an equal spell of possession.

The away side took the lead moments before the break, however, with a fantastic effort from Sigurdsson after good work from Ashley Williams.

Sigurdsson added a wonderful second after 54 minutes when he hammered home an effort from distance after Dyer had fed him the ball.

Swansea were reduced to ten men on the hour mark, however, when Dyer was dismissed for a high challenge on Jordi Gomez.

The home side enjoyed a spell of possession as the half progressed, but could not break down a stern Swans defence.

Mohamed Diame went closest for the Latics after 77 minutes, but his strike was always drifting wide.

Wigan will look to return to winning ways when they travel to Norwich City next Sunday, while Swansea host Manchester City.
