Emmerson Boyce to delay decision over Wigan Athletic future

Emmerson Boyce insists that a decision over his future cannot be made until Wigan Athletic know which division they will be playing in next season.

Wigan Athletic defender Emmerson Boyce has suggested that his future might lie elsewhere next season should the club face the drop to League One.

The Latics head into the final days of the regular season knowing that the odds are stacked firmly against them if they are to remain in the second tier of English football.

Boyce, who is currently Wigan's longest-serving player after joining the club from Crystal Palace back in 2006, will wait until the end of the campaign before making a decision over his next move.

When asked about where he intends to play next season, the 35-year-old told BBC Sport: "I don't know. You've got to ask the chairman, ask the manager to see what my future holds.

"What will be, will be. I've had a great time here and if it's my last game on Saturday then so be it. I can't answer that until next Saturday see what league we're in and fingers crossed we can take it from there."

Boyce has gone on to make 297 appearances for the Lancashire outfit since making a £1m switch from Selhurst Park.
