Benif Afobe unfazed by 'one-season wonder' tag

Wolves striker Benik Afobe says that he does not want to be known as a one-season wonder and that he is unfazed by the pressure following his excellent 2014-15.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Benik Afobe has insisted that he is not fazed by claims that he will not be able to match his goalscoring exploits of last season.

The former Arsenal man scored 32 goals for MK Dons and Wolves last season, and was the subject of continued interest from Premier League side Norwich City this summer.

However, the 22-year-old says that talk of him being a one-season wonder will only spur him on to perform to a higher level throughout the current campaign.

"After scoring 32 goals last season, the main topic at the beginning of this one was whether I could score goals again, that was always going to happen," he told the club's official website.

"If you are going to be a top player you are always going to have people asking questions, criticising, judging, or not believing in you. That just comes with wanting to play at the highest level and it doesn't faze me.

"I just want to enjoy my football, and to not be known as someone who was a one-season wonder. As a striker you go into every game wanting to score, not for yourself but for the team to win games. I always play with that pressure on me because I expect the best out of myself every game."

Afobe has begun this season as he finished the last by scoring four goals in his first seven appearances in all competitions, and will have the chance to add to his tally when Wolves host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
