Marc Wilmots in contention for Wolverhampton Wanderers job?

Former Belgium coach Marc Wilmots is linked with the vacant managerial position at Wolverhampton Wanderers after a flurry of bets on Thursday.

Marc Wilmots has been linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers after bookmakers shortened odds on the surprise appointment of the former Belgium coach.

Dougie Freedman, Sam Allardyce and Vitor Pereira remain the favoured contenders to replace Walter Zenga - who was removed from the Molineux dugout on Tuesday - but a flurry of bets on Wilmots has seen his odds drop from 33/1 to 8/1.

Wilmots was sacked from his role as manager of Belgium soon after their quarter-final defeat to Wales at Euro 2016, but that has not stopped the 47-year-old from being linked with other positions.

Earlier this week, it was widely reported that he had turned down the opportunity to manage Algeria, while he was also forced to deny suggestions that he could become the next boss of Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

Wilmots is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who played a significant role in Fosun International's takeover of the Championship club in July.
