Former Rangers boss Walter Smith has emerged as a surprise candidate to take the Wolverhampton Wanderers job.

Mick McCarthy was sacked by the board last week after nearly six years in charge at Molineux.

Chairman Jez Moxey recently claimed that he was hoping to appoint a new manager this week.
