Sheyi Ojo strike caps Wolverhampton Wanderers derby win

Sheyi Ojo scores late on as Wolverhampton Wanderers climb into the top half of the Championship after a win at Birmingham City.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are into the top half of the Championship after they beat local rivals Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

The visitors were ahead inside 12 minutes when Benik Afobe's effort was stopped by Tomasz Kuszczak, but the Polish keeper was left out of position as Dave Edwards seized on the loose ball to score.

Wolves almost doubled their advantage as Kuszczak almost fumbled James Henry's cross into his own net after a mix up with defender Paul Robinson.

After Nathan Byrne curled an effort just wide of the target, Birmingham finished the half on the front foot, with Stephen Gleeson volleying over the bar from distance.

City also started the second period well and could have equalised, if Clayton Donaldson's flick from Paul Caddis's cross had crept inside the post.

The Blues' attempts to get back on terms were almost punished when Wolves broke out of defence before Byrne teed up Kevin McDonald, but the midfielder's shot was kept out by Kuszczak.

Substitute David Cotterill then tried his luck with a low free kick from 30 yards, but failed to test Emiliano Martinez as City looked to be struggling for a response.

However, Wolves sealed victory with six minutes left as Sheyi Ojo was allowed space to shoot inside the box and the Liverpool loanee's strike flew into the bottom corner of the net.
