Sepp Blatter urges sports organisations to increase their security following the bomb attack on the Boston Marathon.

Sepp Blatter has said that the recent bomb attack on the Boston Marathon should serve as a warning to sports event organisers to increase security.

The FIFA president said that the governing body will work closely with local police and armed forces to ensure that the next year's World Cup finals in Brazil are as safe as possible.

"Security [at sports events] is the responsibility of the government that organises the competitions," Reuters quotes Blatter as saying. "We in FIFA should take care to provide all the necessary information.

"The police, armed forces, secret services of the 31 teams that qualify [for Brazil 2014], that will be a workforce that will be in Interpol's hands. We can't do anything more."

Blatter described the Boston attack as a "tragedy" and urged sports organisations to "take all possible precautions" to secure their events.
