West Bromwich Albion players 'quizzed over stealing taxi'

A report claims that four unnamed West Bromwich Albion players stole a taxi from a McDonald's drive-through and left it abandoned during a trip to Barcelona this week.

Four West Bromwich Albion players were reportedly taken to a police station and questioned after allegedly stealing a taxi during a night out in Barcelona.

The Baggies were in the Catalan capital for a three-day break earlier this week ahead of Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round tie at fellow top-flight strugglers Southampton.

According to The Sun, matters got out of hand during the trip and four unnamed players have been accused of driving off in a cab from a McDonald's drive-through, which they left abandoned outside their five-star hotel.

Albion would not state whether the incident took place, but a statement on their official website on Friday afternoon read: "The club can confirm that four senior players were involved in an incident during this week's mid-winter training trip to Spain.

"The club has instigated its own investigation into the incident and the players will be subject to the full rigours of our internal disciplinary procedures. Until such time as that investigation has been completed, the club will not be making any further comment."

The incident is said to have taken place just before dawn on Thursday morning.
