Steve McNamara: "I thought it was a try"

England coach Steve McNamara admits that he though Ryan Hall had scored a late try for England in their Four Nations defeat to Australia in Melbourne.

Steve McNamara has admitted that he thought that England had scored a late try in their defeat to Australia in the Four Nations earlier this morning.

Ryan Hall went over in the final seconds of the match, but the video referee ruled that he had not grounded the loose ball as the visitors went down 16-12 in Melbourne..

The England coach told Sky Sports News: "I thought it was a try but we probably need to have a lot closer look at that. Ryan said he knew he'd touch the ball but he wasn't 100% sure exactly what the outcome was.

"Looking at it, it looks like his fingers are on the ball when the ball hit the ground so very disappointed."

The result leaves England level on points with Australia, and two points behind table toppers New Zealand.
