Huddersfield Giants see off Hull Kingston Rovers to maintain Super League charge

Huddersfield Giants close in on the top three in the Super League table, courtesy of a resounding 32-14 win against Hull Kingston Rovers.

Huddersfield Giants have brushed aside Hull Kingston Rovers 32-14 at the John Smith's Stadium to make it three Super League wins on the bounce.

The hosts made a strong start to the contest, with Michael Lawrence capitalising on Danny Brough's smart boot through the middle to get them off the mark.

That advantage was reduced when Kris Welham touched down in the corner on the 15-minute mark, but Josh Mantellato failed with his follow-up attempt.

Aaron Murphy made the most of some sloppy KR play to extend the lead once more, touching down under the posts shortly before Albert Kelly slid over the keep the Robins within touching distance.

Having found himself a yard of space with the first half drawing to a close, Leroy Cudjoe added an all-important third try for the Giants by sliding over in the rain.

A successful penalty from Brough gave Huddersfield some breathing space as they looked to extend their winning run, and the skipper then found the chalk with 55 minutes played to bring up a century of career tries after some good work by Kyle Wood.

As the lightning began to crash around the ground, Jermaine McGillvary was the next to cross over, and Ukuma Ta'ai followed in suit six minutes from time just to make sure of things to seal the win.

There was still time for Mantellato to add his name to the try count at the very death, but it did little to effect the final scoreline.
