Canada call all-time leading points scorer James Pritchard out of retirement

Canada ask their all-time leading points scorer James Pritchard to come out of international retirement to replace injured fullback Liam Underwood.

Canada have brought their all-time leading points scorer James Pritchard out of international retirement to replace the injured Liam Underwood at the Rugby World Cup.

Pritchard, 36, announced his retirement one month ago after missing out on a place in Canada's original 31-man squad, but the Bedford fullback assured coach Kieran Crowley that he would be available if required.

Underwood's tournament ended after injuring his knee during the 50-7 loss to Ireland in Canada's opening match in Pool D.

Pritchard scored a Canadian-best 607 points in 61 internationals since 2003, but will have to wait for his fourth World Cup appearance after being left out of the matchday squad to face Italy at Elland Road on Saturday.
