Ireland’s Felix Jones will miss next month’s Rugby World Cup with a foot injury.
The fullback, 24, picked up the knock during Ireland’s 22-26 defeat to France in Dublin on Saturday.
An MRI scan confirmed that the Munster player has sustained an injury to one of the stabilising ligaments in his right foot, which will require a six-week recovery period.
“The squad and management are bitterly disappointed for Felix to suffer an injury at such a vital time in terms of selection for the final touring party,” said team manager Paul McNaughton.
“He had certainly put himself into contention over pre-season and the games in the last three weeks. We all wish him a speedy recovery and hope that he is back playing as soon as possible."
Ireland coach Declan Kidney will name his 30-man World Cup squad later today (Monday).
