Tonga have added a second win to their World Cup campaign, condemning France to their second straight loss in an upset.
Les Blues took the lead in the first minute through the first of three Dimitri Yachvili penalties. However, Tonga's Kurt Morath levelled the score within five minutes with one of his own.
The Sea Eagles had the slight edge as the first half progressed, before Yachvili's second restored France's lead. Tonga again responded within a matter of minutes, this time to take the lead, through a Suka Hufanga score. Morath followed his conversion with his second of four penalties to take the seven-point lead at the break.
Yachvili scored his third three after 49 minutes, but France were unable to threaten Tonga for much of the second half. Morath added two penalties after the hour to extend the lead to 10, before Vincent Clerc's last-minute score proved to be little more than a consolation for the French.
