James Davies criticises referee display

Wales forward James Davies criticises the performance of referee Matthew O'Brien during his side's defeat to Samoa at the Commonwealth Games this evening.

Wales forward James Davies has criticised the performance of the referee during his side's rugby sevens defeat to Samoa this evening.

Wales were beaten 19-12 in the Group C decider at Ibrox, leaving them up against Australia in the medal quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games tomorrow.

Davies believes that Australian referee Matthew O'Brien was partially to blame for the defeat, but is confident that his side can learn from their own mistakes and rectify them on day two.

"I don't think the ref helped. I'm going to say it, I probably shouldn't say it, but I'm going to say it," he told Sports Mole.

"We tried hard. They're a good side, they're going to do well in this tournament. We've just got to learn from what we did wrong and put it right tomorrow morning."

Samoa's reward for their victory is a showdown with England.
