Tomas Berdych elated to reach last eight in Melbourne

Tomas Berdych admits that he was elated with his performance as he overcame Bernard Tomic in straight sets to reach the last eight of the Australian Open.

Tomas Berdych has admitted that he was pleased with how he executed his game plan in his victory over Bernard Tomic in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

The number seven seed dominated the match as he took just two hours to beat the Australian and advance to the quarter-finals for the fifth year in a row in Melbourne.

He told reporters: "That was my plan, start strong and keep on going until the end. I'm really happy with the way I handled it.

"Every time I play here I manage to bring something special, something more and that's always good. So I'm hopeful I can keep going and keep playing good tennis."

Berdych will play 2009 champion Rafael Nadal for a place in the last four of the competition.
