Dominika Cibulkova progresses to semi-finals

Dominika Cibulkova is through to the semi-finals of the Australian Open with a straight-sets victory against Simona Halep.

Dominika Cibulkova has secured her place in the semi-finals of the Australian Open with a straight-sets victory against the number 11 seed Simona Halep.

Cibulkova was too good for her opponent throughout the match, triumphing 6-3 6-0.

Halep was broken in her first service game and that set the tone for the opening set, although the Romanian did break back to make it 4-3.

However, Cibulkova hit back immediately and then took the set after a 12-shot rally.

The second set was even more comfortable with Cibulkova simply too good. The Slovak got two early breaks and stormed 3-0 ahead.

Following a backhand winner and a weak service game by Halep, Cibulkova greatfully wrapped up the win and a semi-final match with either Victoria Azarenka or Agnieszka Radwanska.
