Romanian number one Simona Halep has reached her first ever Grand Slam quarter-final by beating Jelena Jankovic in round four of the Australian Open.

Halep took 112 minutes to beat the eighth seed 6-4 2-6 6-0 at Hisense Arena.

Jankovic made 43 unforced errors and 23 winners, while Halep produced 22 unforced errors and 28 winners.

Halep, who will climb into the world's top 10 next week, will meet Dominika Cibulkova next.

Cibulkova caused a mini shock earlier on day eight by winning 3-6 6-4 6-1 against 2008 champion Maria Sharapova.
