Andy Murray laments "bad, bad day" at French Open semis

Andy Murray admits that his straight-sets thrashing at the hands of Rafael Nadal in the French Open semi-finals was a "bad, bad day" and one he hopes to forget quickly.

Andy Murray has admitted that it was a day to forget for him on Friday as he suffered a straight-sets drubbing to Rafael Nadal in the French Open semi-finals.

Nadal won 6-3 6-2 6-1 in rapid fashion to inflict a heaviest-ever Grand Slam defeat on the Wimbledon champion and progress to a ninth Roland Garros final.

Murray has conceded that he was nowhere near his best in Paris, but is eager to move on quickly and turn his attention to the upcoming grass court season, when he will try to defend his SW19 title.

"It was a tough day for me. It was a bad, bad day. I'll need to bounce back quickly from it, because I'm not particularly happy with the way I played today," he told reporters.

"It's difficult because I normally strike the ball fairly cleanly. Today I was mishitting a lot of balls. It was incredibly frustrating. I wanted to play better and better as the match went on. In some ways you start trying too hard, and it doesn't always appear that way. But you want to do stuff too badly, and you end up making more mistakes and things get worse.

"I never want to say forget about matches like this, but obviously the grass-court season starts in a couple of days and I need to switch my mind to that."

Nadal will be aiming for an unprecedented ninth French Open crown on Sunday when he faces Novak Djokovic, who beat surprise package Ernests Gulbis to set up a showdown with the Spaniard.
