Roger Federer moves easily into the French Open fourth round with a straight-sets win over Julien Benneteau.

Roger Federer has seen off old nemesis Julien Benneteau in the third round of the French Open, beating the Frenchman in straight sets.

Benneteau got off to the perfect start, breaking his illustrious Swiss opponent in the very first game, but Federer battled back in the fourth to level the set.

Federer then earned a break to love in game eight, which was enough for him to take the opening set 6-3.

In the second set neither player had much of a look-in at his opponent's serve until the Swiss stepped it up to break in the ninth and served for a 2-0 lead.

The third set saw both men win their serve comfortably until at the perfect time Federer's trusty backhand earned him a break for 6-5 and the opportunity to serve for the match, which he did not pass up as he advanced comfortably into the fourth round.
